Making Sofa Arm Protective Covers
When you make protective covering for the sofa arm, it will give you some extra time before you have to replace or reupholster the entire piece.
Begin by measuring the arm of the couch from the back cushion to the end of the arm. Run the tape from the seat cushion to the same place on the outer side of the arm. Remember to add about an inch to the figures you have for sewing seams and hems.
Next, measure the widest part of the front of the arm and the length from the top of the arm to the seat cushion. If your arm fronts are rounded, you can trace the rounded front section on a piece of brown wrapping paper. Again, add about a half inch for the seam and use it as a template.
Then, sew a half inch hem along the back edge of the first piece. Proceed to attaching the second piece top edge with the right sides of the fabric together. For rounded edge front piece, it may be easier if you pin the edges together before sewing.
